Janis V. Gong, O.D.

Dr. Gong is a 4th generation Californian born and raised in Visalia, CA. She attended the University of California at Berkeley receiving her Bachelor of Optometry and Doctor of Optometry degrees. After graduation, she taught and lectured at the University of California Berkeley School of Optometry for 20 years in the pre-clinic course as well as binocular vision and pediatrics.

Dr. Gong has been in private practice in Los Gatos since 1973 and very happy to continue seeing patients from that first year. She was joined in the office by her husband, Dr. Kenneth Sweeney, in 1983 and they have enjoyed a complementary optometric partnership ever since. Her emphasis is family eyecare specializing in pediatrics and binocular vision.

Dr. Gong and Dr. Sweeney have two sons. She is an avid Giants fan, loves good food, and Broadway shows. She spends time with her family, friends, yoga and reading good books.


Kenneth E. Sweeney, O.D.

Dr. Sweeney was born in San Francisco and raised in Moraga and Fresno. He attended UCLA earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics before attending UC Berkeley School of Optometry. At UC Berkeley, he obtained a Bachelor of Optometry and his Doctorate of Optometry.

In his final year at UC Berkeley, Dr. Sweeney was involved in extended wear contact lens research and lens design at CooperVision Optics in San Jose. After graduation, he continued his work at CooperVision until he joined his wife, Dr. Janis Gong, in private practice in 1983. Dr. Sweeney has a special interest in contact lenses but also enjoys providing comprehensive family eyecare including the treatment of eye diseases and refractive surgery co-management.

When Dr. Sweeney is not working, he likes to travel and spend time with his family. He also enjoys gardening and taking motorcycle trips.


Marianne Sunseri, Office Manager

Marianne started working for the doctors in 1995 as their receptionist and is now their Office Manager. She truly enjoys customer service and has loved getting to know our patients over the years. Her job consists of everything from insurance billing and accounting to general office duties, as well as overseeing the rest of the staff. Marianne was born and raised in Southern California and moved to the Bay Area in 1982 after meeting her husband at Cal Poly, SLO. In her spare time she enjoys reading, cooking and collecting recipes. She also loves spending time with her husband, 2 daughters and their Maltese, Toby.


Rachelle Osbrink, Receptionist

Rachelle has worked in the office as a receptionist since March, 2009. Her job includes all front desk duties such as scheduling and maintaining patient appointments, receiving and directing all calls, and controlling the general flow of the office. A vast amount of customer service experience allows her to keep a clear and direct communication between our patients, the doctors, and the rest of the staff. Rachelle was born in San Francisco and grew up in San Jose, attending school in the Evergreen area. In her spare time she enjoys exercising, going to Giants games, spending time with her 2 nephews, and going to the beach.


Sarah Foley, Optician

Sarah became interested in the field of optometry when she started working as a receptionist for a private practice over seven years ago. After extensive training and education she began a career as an optician five years ago and is continually fascinated by every aspect of the job. Knowledge of lens technology and proper frame selection allows Sarah to fit every patient with a pair of glasses that they are excited to wear and that she is proud to dispense. Originally from Santa Clara, Sarah has lived in the South Bay all her life. Her spare time is usually spent jogging or hanging out with her cats, and she loves stand-up comedy!


Jerome Reduta, Paraoptometric/Optician

Jerry is originally from Vallejo, CA., and attended SJSU to major in Oboe Performance. He became motivated to pursue a career in the optical field after having his first eye examination at age 22. Being able to experience first-hand how healthy vision can improve the quality of life inspired him to become committed to helping other people find that same joy. Jerry is a Certified Optician through the American Board of Opticianry, with experience in ophthalmic manufacturing. Prior to becoming part of the optometric community, his previous experience included fashion and interior design. In his free time, Jerry enjoys searching out the local fare of San Jose, San Francisco, and surrounding communities.
